Food Extruder Production Line Selection Checklist

Use this practical checklist to define a food extrusion project before comparing suppliers. It covers the finished product, formula, saleable output, equipment boundary, utilities, factory acceptance testing and proposal comparison. Complete the same checklist for each supplier so quotations are reviewed on one basis.

Important: An extruder model or motor power does not define a complete production line. Formula, moisture removal, dryer load, coating, cooling and packaging can change the practical saleable output.

1. Finished product

  • Product category and reference sample
  • Shape, dimensions, texture and bulk density
  • Finished moisture and shelf-life target
  • Expected product changeovers

2. Raw materials

  • Main ingredient categories and approximate ratios
  • Particle size and incoming moisture
  • Wet additions, oil and micro-dosing
  • Recipe limitations and allergens

3. Capacity basis

  • Saleable packed output in kg/h
  • Output per shift and operating hours
  • Moisture basis and expected process loss
  • Acceptable start-up and changeover waste

4. Equipment boundary

  • Grinding, mixing and controlled feeding
  • Preconditioning, extrusion, die and cutter
  • Drying, cooling, coating and seasoning
  • Inspection, conveying and packaging

5. Factory and utilities

  • Workshop dimensions and maintenance access
  • Voltage, frequency and transformer capacity
  • Electricity, gas or steam for drying
  • Compressed air, water, drainage and exhaust

6. Materials and compliance

  • Food-contact stainless-steel scope
  • Electrical standard and control components
  • Machine guarding and safety interlocks
  • Cleaning method and hygiene zoning

7. Factory acceptance test

  • Representative raw material and trial product
  • Stable-run duration and measurement point
  • Capacity, moisture and quality criteria
  • Open-item record before shipment

8. Supplier comparison

  • Compare identical equipment boundaries
  • Separate included and optional equipment
  • Confirm installation responsibilities
  • Review warranty, spare parts and documents

Documents to request before placing an order

  • Final equipment list and process-flow diagram
  • General arrangement or line layout
  • Installed power and utility schedule
  • Food-contact material and electrical component specifications
  • FAT plan, spare-parts list and installation responsibility matrix
  • Operation and maintenance documentation
